CHAINSAW SAFE HANDLING

Duration: 6hrs.

The chainsaw safe handling course is designed to educate participants about the safe handling, maintenance and use of the chainsaw. Participants will gain an understanding in what contributes to accidents and how to avoid them. Hands on demonstrations of saw maintenance, sharpening and practical work. Bucking and limbing strategies, understanding compression and tension and dealing with spring poles are included in the training as well as notching, back cutting and felling techniques.

Training workers and developing skills that reduce safety hazards and reduced risks associated with chainsaws and felling trees is the general theme of this course with strong focus on personal safety, risk assessment and accident prevention.

  • Tree falling risk management;
  • Emergency planning;
  • PPE Chainsaw safety and maintenance;
  • Safe starting and operations;
  • Limbing and bucking;
  • Technical cutting & tree felling.

CERTIFICATION: Upon successful completion of the course, a wallet card and all necessary paperwork for each participant will be submitted to the employer as proof of training.

REQUIREMENTS: This course requires participants to have suitable clothing (weather suited) and personal protection equipment (ie: CSA certified safety boots, safety glasses) for the practical portion of the course.
